Sciatica Pain

March 9th, 2009 by Your Knee Arthritis Guide Admin Team

Sciatica pain can be extreme.  A herniated disc bulges and presses on the sciatica nerve which runs down the back of the leg.  As a result, a person may experience pain, pins and needles, numbness or even muscle weakness.

Sciatica pain doesn’t resolve quickly.  There are a number of different health practitioners involved in the treatment of sciatica.  Some involve conservative care while others are invasive such as injetions and surgery.  Unfortunately, once you have had sciatica once, it tends to recur.  The outer part of the disc which is called the annulus fibrous has developed a fissure or a tear which allows the nucleus or jelly part of the disc to move down.

Sciatica pain often occurs in people in their 30-40’s.  Sitting incorrectly and bending and lifting the wrong way is one of the main reasons people develop sciatica pain.
